Hi, I’m Natalie, a parent and passionate educator since 2011. While I’ve taught in various educational settings, from public to charter to private, my passion has always been supporting students one-on-one.
Working with students with either diagnosed language-based learning differences, or students who have not received adequate phonics instruction in the classroom, (and as a result, are struggling to read) is my specialty. As a certified reading specialist, my goal is to provide high-level, direct and explicit instruction that helps students capitalize on their individual strengths, in a warm and engaging setting.
Upon graduating from the Reading Specialist Program at Teachers College, Columbia University, I worked in New York City’s independent private schools as both a reading and learning specialist. In this setting, I taught small and whole group reading instruction to students with varying abilities, tailoring my instructional approach to each individual student, while always staying true to the Orton-Gillingham method. I then pursued additional training through IMSLEC, and began working towards certification as an Academic Language Therapist. Over my career, I have worked closely with classroom teachers, school administrators, outside therapists, and most importantly, parents, to create individualized learning programs to help students reach their highest potential.
The Reading Room is a place where students become equipped with the tools they need to be independent, confident, and skilled readers. I know first hand that all students can succeed once they have mastered the foundational concepts they need to read. I’m excited for you to see that too.
